Normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH) is a neurological disease of old age and is characterised by an increased accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid in the ventricles of the brain. The characteristic symptoms of NPH (gait disturbances, sudden urge to urinate and declining mental performance) can be alleviated by, among other things, a so-called "lumbar puncture", in which part of the cerebrospinal fluid is removed. As part of the KoSSNo study series, it was investigated over the course of treatment how NPH patients assess their mental performance and which specific cognitive functions are most likely to benefit from a lumbar puncture.
